    Hello All,
I am working with ALCATEL BSS. My question is : what is the risk of increasing radio link timeout (from 18 to 24 for example)?
    Thanks a lot

    hello,

    2 risks :

1/ the detection of radio call drop is altered, you might notice a decrease of radio call drop. But it’s just because subscribers are hanging up rather than waiting for the call to drop. (this is especially true in “downlink-limited” cells). Your CDR is artificially decreased. Therefore you should change your KPI threshold in order to take this into account (instead of threshold = 1.2%, you use 1.0% for example)

2/ the BSS keeps the TCH timeslot reserved for a call as long as the radio link timeout is not expired. So your radio resources are wasted.

    Regards

    Hello Pix,

    1000 thanks for your reply.

I have a suggestion : if RLT is tuned just to wait radio conditions to be enhanced (obstacle case). So, a call will be saved.
    Is it logic Pix ?

    Thanks.

    Mirmar,

    Yes, absolutely !

There is a very little risk the timing advance would have changed too much (if the MS travels more than 1 km behind the obstacle …?), but that shouldn’t stop you from trying.
