    Hello,

I would like to ask what is the difference between T1/E1 CAS and PRI signaling in terms of determining if a channel is being used or not.

Since T1/E1 CAS 2 bit signaling is also digital there should be no problem for a VoIP gateway for example or any other device to see if a channel is busy, as is the case when the channel is analog.

So, why is it that PRI is recommended over T1/E1 CAS 2 bit signaling?

    Thanks for any input.
    Vlasis.

PRI is a more robust signaling protocol. Various CAS based mechanisms cannot transmit enough information.

In CAS, there are only 4 bits to transmit information in. PRI uses an entire channel for signaling and has information that encompasses various supplementary features.
