    my question is

    how many simultaneous calls can be handled by a single transceiver of a BTS in a GSM network.

    depends on what kit you use a nokia ultra will allow 7 TCH with 1 combined SD&BCch

    For Full Rate speeach codec:

    Up to 7 TCH.

    For Half-Rate: – up to 14.

    Hi rajababu,

    Depends,

    if u use combined BCCH
    then u have 7 TCHs
    then minimum 7 full rate calls
    maximum 14 half rate calls

    then no of calls vary 7 to 14

    if u use uncombined then one time slot for BCCH one for SDCCH

    then u have 6 free time slots for TCH
    then u can make 6 minimum full rate calls
    and 12 maximum half rate calls

    then no of calls vary 6 to 12

    Hi Anurag

    The number of calls that can be handled by a TRX depends on the number of channels defined on it, if all 8 channels are defined as Full Rate TCH then 8 calls and if 8 Half rate TCH then it can take 16 calls at one time.

    Hi,

    Currently there are features which support quad rate calls in the system ie 4 simultaneous calls at one time slot.

    in Ericsson : it’s known as VAMOS feature and in Nokia : it’s known as OSC feature.

    Ex: 1 TRX=8 tsl

    using combined mode we have 7 TCH TSL.

    Total Voice calls supported by TRX= 7*4=28 calls simultaneously.

    is the number of Time-slots the same with the number of Channels in a TRX?

    How many number of Time-slots in a TRX

    How many number of channels in a TRX for both full-rate and half-rate??

    How many number of channels in an E1?

    How do you explain the relationship between an E1 and a TRX interms of channel equivalent?

    Hello Arinze Chidi!

    HR/FR is a multiplexing mechanism on timeslot taken by the BSC in other to fit with capacity requirement. This rate change is guided by parameters that enable the BSC to take decision on the rate to set for new incoming calls in a particular cell.
    Now half rate is 2 users multiplexed on a single TS every frame and each of them haS his SACCH channel on frame 12 and 25 for MR report purpose, across multiframe26

    plz suggest how many call transmits and receive in one time in one TRX.

    How many TRX used in one sectors and how many TRX to be used in one E1.
