Motorola Horizon Calibration

Hi all,
I have a question about the calibration of the bay level offsets of Motorola Horizon and Horizon II. In the service manual Motorola says that the needed equipment is “signal generator”, but does not specify if it is CW signal generator or synthesized signal generator. Does anyone knows for sure which one should I use (or may be both are good for the job)?
