Traffic shaping comes from the data IP world. It is basically a method of providing QoS on an IP data network through protocol and/or application prioritization, queuing, and TCP windowing. If the backbone transport protocol supports CoS, this would also be part of QoS, though not technically a part of traffic shaping.
