Video telecommunications has been operational for three decades: We, Linkabit Corp., San Diego, built a bit-per-pixel Hadamard compression system for NASA in the mid 1970’s; which was integrated into whatever system they had or were designing;
Modern video compression is using Haarlets (SPIHT), pushing a sixth of a bit per pixel … (with a bit more digital sophistication merges into Hadamardlets).
Dr. Jerry Heller and Woo Paik, of Linkabit, went on to GI, to invent digital HDTV using DCT.
But what became of NASA’s system?
