When a switch be called as Softswitch ?

Hello,

I have one question. Can a Switch be called as Softswitch just when you have the Bearer functions in a separate entity called MGW & Switching processing in a separate entity called as the Switching Unit. Or we need to have a Full IP functionality (IP at the A Interface ) to call it as softswitch ? Simple but question for me
