Hi all, I’m new to this forum and VOIP. I am taking over the task of running our voip network, and I don’t even know how it works!

We have a cisco 3640 with a voice T1 running to it at our home office. We also have an ata-186 to handle our home office voip traffic. At our remote location, we have another ata-186. Right now we just use the system to call directly between the 2 locations and to allow the remote location to call within the US at our home office rates.

Could someone give me a brief explanation of how we are currently using the system, and how we could potentially expand the service to multiple locations?

Something does not add up.If you have a 3640 with a T1 at your office, what do you need something so basic as the ATA to handle the calls on your location???
It may be that you are using the 3640 as a gatekeeper, but that will not need the T1 card on the 3640.

As a good start, look into the ATA 186 mneu to see where you are pointing those 186 .Look for the field named “gatekeeper” and “gateway”.
If you have static I.P. addresses on those remote locations, with some cheap gateways you could make a good size VOIP network, with multiple remotes.
