    Dear all,
In a MOC procedure, could plz tell me why the MSC needs to send Common id to BSC ? and why it contains the IMSI of the MS ?
    Thanks

I have this explanation : After sending the CM SER Req and doing the security and authentication procedure. The MSC will send a common ID in which there is the IMSI to the BSC. The bsc will use this message to check and verify the identity of the MS. I hope that this is the right answer.

    hi jason,

unfortunately, your answer is probably not correct : all security checks are perform by the core network only (HLR/EIC)

The BSC has one reason to need the IMSI : it’s to be able to perform the Paging Coordination.

There might be other reason, but i cant find any. So I suspect that this sending of the IMSI is rather recent in networks (let’s say 4 or 5 yrs)
