    Hi Experts,

    Is there any difference to cell celection or re-selection algırithm between GPRS and GSM mode?

    For both situation MS measure the same rxlev values or not?

    Is it possible to cell re-selection faster in GSM or GPRS idle mode?

    hello,
    cell selection and reselection is occuring in idle mode, hence I believe there is no difference for GPRS and GSM modes.

    the process depends on the rxlev and calculating the C1 and C2 values.
    the cell with the highest C1 will be choosen to make the cell selection/reselection on it.

    on the other hand, when cell reselection algorithm is enabled, the process will depend on C2 value.

    i will discribe on motorola standards,

    to make faster or slower cell reselection, note the following formula:

    C2 = C1 + cell reselect offset – H * temp offset

    where H = 1 when T < penalty time. and H = 0 when T > penalty time.
    note: T: the time in which the UE is located under the cell in seconds.

    and the equation is
    C2 = C1 – cell reselect offset
    when penalty time is set to 31

    you can optimize the parameters as you wish but keep in mind
    to attacrt more UE’s make C2 higher.
    to reject UE’s make C2 lower.
