    Hi,
I have a general observation, in many cases my BCCH TRXs(which have lower allocation priority for Calls and GPRS / SDCCH TS allocated) has TA samples different from TA samples of Hopping Radios of the same Zone, usually Lower TA samples have a higher percentage. Any explanation for this abnormal behavior?

    hi mania,

it is difficult to make an assumption. What I can tell you for sur is that I don’t have an answer. But we can discuss 🙂

The BCCH TRX will be “filled” with TCH calls only once all the other TRXs are filled up.

Therefore, this is what is called “busy time”. A lot of traffic in the cell… It could last one hour, or just few seconds. I can happen many times during the day, that the cell is suddenly congested.
At such time, the radio conditions are rather poor, therefore MS which are nearer to the BTS have more chance in successfully establishing a cell. that could explain the lower TA on the BCCH TRX.

Now, another idea is that hopping TRX provides frequency diversity, which lead to a bigger coverage. Therefore a call established on a hopping TRX *could* be kept further away than a call on BCCH carrier. It is a little far-streched, I agree… :))

    Hi,
I am currently working in NSN Siemens. I do not remember that such a case existed for Alcatel even though the region was the same. Does anyone else have the same observation on any other vendor.

I think the point of view of the less interfered(in terms of noise floor not IOI) TRX due to cleaner frequency looking over a larger area is plausible; considering that it would generate Quality Based HO at a later stage than the interfered band. But that should not be the case where the percentageof Quality based HOs are low..

Thanks pix for the thought at least now we have a plausible cause. 🙂
