    Hi experts,

Is Asynchronous handover needed in case of installed repeater for the cell. That is to say, even handover between co-sited cells should be asynchronous? Can you kindly explain the reason?

Synchronous Neighbours can only be defined for cells of the same site or for different sites if there is synchronisation between there E1’s(expansion sites say).

Handovers between Co-sited cell can be synchronous if there is SYNC=YES between there E1’s or having Shared E1’s.

The need for defining synchronous & asynchronous neighbours arises only to know the correct TA of the MS.

Regarding Repeater Cells, its better to define Asynchronous Neighbours between cells of the same site as when a repeater is used, the delay through
the repeater will add to the round trip propagation delay and result in an incorrect actual distance calculated to the mobile.
    Since the delay through the
repeater is not controllable from the base station, then the signal may be difficult to
    synchronize.
