I have seen some vendor guys installing a s222 BTS with 6 antennas instead of 3. Each cell has two dual polarization annteannas(i.e. two ports)one higher and the other one below.. the type of the BTS is a distibuted BTS and the Antenna module and the TRX are all mounted on the tower only the process is in inside. I thought that having three antennas with dual polarization will be better but, therefore what are the perfomance effect of having this tyhpe of connection. They were supposed to use combiners or may be they are trying to save the power of the BTS since it is distributed with low power if they use a combiner they will get half power. Any ideas please?

I want to know if they are using two antenna per sector.

If that is their configuration, then they are using antenna diversity which is use to solve fading for an environment with bad weather condition.
