    Hello all ! Could you advice me – in what network element T3212 timer setting is performed? Is it BSC (RNC), MSC, VLR? Which element is responsible for T3212 assignment?

    Thank !

    Hello Masha,

    All BSS parameters are set in the OMC-R by the technical staff. They are then transferred in the BSC database, and forwarded to each cell.

    The T3212 can be configured differently per cell.

    Thank you Pix !
    Does it mean that MS gets the T3212 value during the registration in the network (first Location Update) from the BSC? If the T3212 changed, when and how the MS is updated? If two cells have different T3212 how the MS is updated during cell reselection?

    sorry for this mass of questions 🙂

    Dear, Maria!
    MS gets the T3212 value from System Info on BCCH.
    When cell reselection is occured then t3212 shall be reloaded so that the new time to expiry will be:
    “time to expiry in the old cell” mod (“T3212 value in the new cell”).
    For example, if:
    T3212 in the old cell = 360 min,
    time to expiry in the old cell = 60 min.
    T3212 in the new cell = 240 min min,
    then the new time to expiry will be:
    60 mod(240)= 60 min
    and else,
    if:
    T3212 in the old cell = 720 min,
    time to expiry in the old cell = 360 min.
    T3212 in the new cell = 240 min min,
    then the new time to expiry will be:
    360 mod(240)= 120 min

    similar manner is used for time to expiry reload in case of T3212 change in current cell.

    Hi,
    Also it is used in MSS in Implicit attaché
    here some Printouts:
    >>Implicit IMSI detach timer (min) = 485
    x=240min or 4hours
    >> IMPLICIT DEREGISTRATION: 012 HRS. 05 MIN
    x=6 Hours
    IF T3212=X THEN implicit Timer can be something like this = 2X+some min
    this means, we give subscriber another chance to do periodic location Update if first time got failed.
