Abis dimensioning

    Hi,
    I want to know that
    1- How many TSLs in one EDAP
    2- one PCM can support how many EDAP & How many TRX .
    3- what is the data rate reduction in the abis dimensioning how we can calculate it.

    If anybody can give abis dim doc for understanding plz

    Hi,
    At first you have to calculate the TS no. for E1
    1. TS needed for BCCH
    2. TS needed for SDCCH/site
    3. TS needed for TCH/site
    4. TS needed for PDCH/site
    5. TS needed for LAPD/site
    6. TS needed for EDGE rate/site (eg. if you use MCS3-MCS6, then you need at least 2 TS)
    7. Multiplex mode (4:1 0r 2:1)

    Divide by the 31 (i think you know it)

    You will get the E1 number/site.

    Hi Vishwas,

    EDAP is basically abbreviated as EDGE Dedicated Abis Pool. It is the operator who has to decide on how many TS to be allocated for EDAP. n in that EDAP we can allocate a maximum of 8TS – Dedicated for EDGE for one PCM provided you give the concentration factor as 4:1.

    data rate reduction – nill knowledge. Sorry 🙂

    this is typical “packet” dimensionning. Just sum up all the throughputs at BH (cs + ps + sig + o&m), take 30% (ex.) margin, and see if it all fits within 2mbps…

    Yet, usually, you already have your E1 link. By switching from E1 to IPoE1, you will gain a lot of capacity. There is no need to do a dimensionning, because there is no risk of congestion. And then you can monitor your IP load thanks to BSS counters.
    The next step is to gradually increase your radio capacity until you’re reaching your Abis IP capacity.
