Some mobile network operators measure path balance for mobile station approvals. Example:
Downlink:-81.32 dB
Uplink:-87.14 dB
Path balance: 5.82 dB

How do they measure the path balance? Only at BTS and only for RX channels?
How and why do they compare base station Rx level with MS Rx level?
What is the background or point of quality here?

path bal = (rx ul – tx ul) – (rx dl – tx dl)

so they need to choose a certain output power for the BTS. for the ms power (ul tx), it should be fixed to 33dBm.

a positive path balance means that the cell range is limited by the downlink path : the ms is not sensitive enough, or the bts doesn’t emit strong enough.
