    Dear All,

In handover command sent to the MS has the following
    Power command and access type

Access type control (ATC) : (0) Sending of Handover Access is mandatory

This message appears for both Sync and Non-Sync HOs.

Question: Is there any handover command in which the Handover Access is non mandatory and what does it signify?

maybe 2G-3G handover, where the NodeB doesn’t expect a HO ACCESS, but another message ?

But this message is part of GSM specification since there was no 3G ๐Ÿ™‚

there are plenty of “empty” fields in GSM specifications, in order to be future-proof ! That’s why GSM went from phase 1 to R’6 without major changes in the message flows, or in the messages themselves.

The fundamentals are always the same, and yet it’s still working competitively against 3G ๐Ÿ™‚ (well, ok, i could limit myself and only say “it’s still working” ๐Ÿ˜€ )

Have a good week end !

So this field is always set to mandatory for 2G to 2G handovers. Does anyone who has worked with 3G know if this is non mandatory for 2G to 3G HOs????
