Routing Area and Location Area

    hi,do you know why Routing Area should be smaller than Location Area? and it is a must?

    I don’t think that is a must. In our network, RA and LA are the same.

    it depends on your data traffic :
    low traffic : LA = RA
    high traffic : from 2 up to 6 RA per LA

    This is to avoid impacting the PAGING capacity of the cells by generating too much PS Pagings.

    A good way to know if your dimensioning is good enough is by checking your PCH occupancy / congestion.

    Thanks pix for your comment. If we define seperated PBCCH (not combined with BCCH) for each cell and the data traffic not be so much is it possible that RA be larger than LA? What’s your idea?

    PBCCH ?? i always thought that there is no MS that supports this feature… does it work for you ?
