The Campling process of MS is as follows for roaming Ms

    1. It will scan for the HOME PLMN network, that is the network he is registered on.

    2. If not able to get the signal then it will look for the NCC which has been permitted by the Service operator,,,,and this list is stored in SIM Card itself.

    3. If it finds then camping occurs otherwise.

    4. It scans all of the avialable PLMN and camps on the PLMn which is best suited in terms of Signal strength

    Thats all

well i attended an ericsson’s training and the instructor said that the home PLMN is not the plmn that subscriber has registered for….but it is the Previously used PLMN when the mobile was switched off or went out of coverage

Worth remembering when Pix right when he say “this list is stored in SIM Card itself” that should be read in context with GSM Standard:

    GSM1111 Release 99
The MS shall only store BCCH information from the System Information 2 message and not the 2bis extension message

    Hi,

    What is in 2bis?

According to TEMS names there are:
    2 (GSM900)
    2ter (EGSM;DCS)
    2quarter (UMTS)

    Regards

    Hi Vanderley
BCCH/SYS-INFO 2bis is optional information sent on the BCCH – eg network to mobile station. The large number neighbour cells (freqeuncies) for DCS1800 and PCS1900 exceeds the capacity for the BCCH/SYS_INFO 2, and 2bis and 2ter are used to define and broadcast that information. See GSM0408

An MS which is primary GSM may ignore 2bis information.
