    Hi,

Can any body tell me why PBCCH channel (used to send network information if cell supports GPRS) is not used by any of the service provider.

why PBCCH is used when system information of GPRS is provided in BCCH(SI13)?

what are advantages of PBCCH over BCCH?

pbcch means that there is a specific timeslot which is configured to broadcast the PSI.
In other words, there is BCCH on TS0 and PBCCH on TS2 for example.

Unfortunately, there is no MS in the world that supports this feature. So it is never used. The PSI are transmitted to the MS in PTM through their PACCH. (Packet Transer Mode)

So you might as well forget about PBCCH, as I believe it is now deprecated in 3GPP.

    ram,

i don’t know… i guess listening to 2 BCCH all the time is very constraining for the battery life and a nightmare when it comes to reselection.
