SS7 LINK SET MEASUREMENT

    Hy,

    I have a formula about the SS7 Link Set Measurement but I don’t know if is correct. A person said to me that can be used for transmission and reception…

    The formula is:

    Link Set Load (%) = (((MSUS*6 + OCTSIF&SIO)*8)/(64000*3600*N))*100

    where:

    64000 – link set tax (64 kbs)
    3600 – 1 hour = 3600 seconds
    N – Number of links in Link Set.

    Is this formula correct?

    Yes this formula is correct as it is being used by Ericsson Standard Business Object Tool.

    Why do we multiply MSU’s by 6 ?
    Is it the overhead??

    I have a few questions about this formula:
    I don’t understand why do you have to multiply by 8 the sum (MSUS*6 + OCTSIF&SIO) since both terms are already given in octets? Also, would not be more correct to divide by 65536 (64k) instead of 64000? Another aspect is that the link also caries LSSU (Link Status Signal Unit). I have no idea about how many LSSU messages are transmitted and if their number can be safely ignored in link load calculation. Any idea? Thank you.

    You multiply by 8, ‘coz SL rate is given in bits, not octets.
    65536 is more correct, but is error is just 2% it isn’t a big deal.

    LSSU are very rare messages. They could be ignored without any doubts

    Thank you Snowstorm for your very fast answer! I missed that, link speed is given in kbps and of course, you have to convert octets to bits. And also it is correct to divide by 64000 (65536 is right only for KBytes).

    The overhead should be 7 Right ?

    Why it is 6 ?

    Dear All

    I am working in IN deptt and I have been given a task to calculate the SS7 link load

    The formula that i used is

    Total subscribers * (Avg BHCA/sub * AHT) / 3600 = IN load in Erlangs

    is this the right formula?i will appreciate any suggestions or corrections

    Dear Nitesh patel and else plz let me know that if this formula is correct then y i am getting wrong answers:
    i have,
    SIF+SIO Octets X=518766
    SIF+SIO Octets R=596511
    MSUs X=3025
    MSUs R=4272

    SIF+SIO = SIF+SIO X + SIF+SIO R
    SIF+SIO = 518766 + 596511 =1115277

    MSUs=MSUs X + MSUs R
    MSUs=3025+4272=7297

    using,

    Link Load=(((MSUS*6 + OCTSIF&SIO)*8)/(64000*3600))

    Link Load=(((7297*6 + 1115277)*8)/(64000*3600))

    Link Load = 9272472 / 230400000

    Link Load = 0.0402 Erlangs

    this is load calculated by using this formula but ithink it should be near 0.40 to get 40% load on each link.Note I have calculated link load but not link set load so I have neglected ‘N’.plz help me in this regard.ITS URGENT AND IMPORTANT

    Dear Rony! your all calculations are wrong and the values of MSUs and SIF are not accurate and in a right form to put in this formula.U r doing wrong somewhere,formula is right but ur stats and substitution of values is wrong…..work hard and read more,thanks

    can any body explain what the overload factor is.
    i am still unable to understand it.
