Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I am a Software Engineer, not a Telecoms Engineer.

I am trying to define a common model of GSM objects across vendors. I am struggling with E/// channel group compared with Nokia TRX, Siemens TRX.

    My questions:

    i) How is a channel group related to a transceiver in E/// and does a channel group have to be assigned to a transceiver – or can it just be defined but not allocated ?

ii) In E/// non-hopping, are each of the channels in all of the channel groups in a cell active on a transceiver in that cell ?

iii) In E/// hopping, can you define three channel groups for a cell (including the default 0) and if so why ?

    Consider the theoretical example:

    E///

    Cell1 – CHGR 0 – BCCH = 600, TCH= 610
    Cell1 – CHGR 1 – 630, 670, 700
    Cell1 – CHGR 2 – 710, 730, 750

iv) Can I have the additional non-BCCH ARFCN (610) assigned to CHGR 0 ?

    v) If this was non-hopping does this mean I have 8 Transceivers (one for each ARFCN), is this the same in engineering terms as having a single channel group with 8 ARFCN entries ?

vi) If this was hopping would only one of the two CHGR1 and 2 groups be present ? If both, is this valid and under what circumstances ?

Thank you in advance for any help in these questions.
