i want to know how many calls are there in a 60 channels given 1 erlang

Technically, you can’t tell with the given information.

it can be 1 call for one hour
it can be 2 calls for 30 mins each
it can be 60 calls for 1 min each
…
…
etc

The term erlang does not describe the “call volume”! Rather, it describes the total amount of hours of all the calls.

thanks for the information. this question was asked to me during my interview with a wireless company here in US and I cannot answer the question because of a missing data which is the average call duration based on your reply.

For easy understanding:

if you have 5 calls in 1 hour, with MHT (mean holding time) of 120 sec, it gives

5*120/3600=0,16666666Erl traffic

For proper dimensioning, some other erlang calculations must be done, with some other parameters, i.e. blocking probability etc.

Of course, maximum traffic in Erlangs recommended is differet from trunk to trunk ( it depends for what type of signalization is used)
