This calculator can be used to estimate the bandwidth required through an IP based network to transport a given number of voice lines. You can select the number of lines required, voice activity percentage and voice compression scheme (CODEC). The calculator assumes that no RTP header compression will be used, and that RTCP control packets are sent uncompressed, although you have full control over these attributes. The calculator does not take data link (layer 2) overheads into account, but you can change this by choosing between Ethernet 802.3, PPP, Frame Relay, ATM and HDLC.
