VoIP Calculator

Our downloadable voip calculator can help you work out how much bandwidth you need to provide through an IP based network for your VoIP telephony traffic. We offer licences for lifetime use and free upgrades.

These two calculators simplify the difficult calculations involved in working out how much bandwidth you need for your voice over IP network, taking variables such as codec and packet size into account. It is available for download with lifetime upgrades and installation support for a once-only payment of just $59.

“Your software is great, I would recommend it to anyone. It has been a pleasure doing business with you.”
John McGowan, PROSOFT Inc.

It supports VoIP bandwidth calculations for the G.711, G.723.1, G.726, G.728 and G.729A codecs, with and without RTP header compression.

Lines and IP Bandwidth Calculator

Each VoIP calculator is presented inside a tab at the top of the application. The Lines and IP Bandwidth Calculator works out the bandwidth that you should provide through an IP-based network for a given number of voice channels. The calculator works up to 100,000 Lines and 20,000 Mbps.

VoIP Calculator
“How much bandwidth in Mbps should I provide through an IP-based network to carry 600 voice paths? I am using the G.729A codec. I use cRTP header compression to reduce the packet header to 4 octets and one packet is being transmitted in each direction every 20 milliseconds.”
Answer – 5.76Mbps

You can also perform reverse calculations to work out the number of voice paths that can be derived from your existing IP-based connection.

Erlangs and IP Bandwidth VoIP Calculator

This calculator returns the bandwidth that you should provide through your IP-based network to transport a known traffic volume in Erlangs or CCS. The calculator works up to 25,000 Erlangs and 20,000 Mbps!

VoIP Calculator - bandwidth calculation
“How much bandwidth should I provide through an-IP based network that is offered 522.1 Erlangs of traffic of traffic in its busiest hour. I use the G.729A codec. I am using cRTP header compression to reduce the packet header to 2 octets and one packet is being transmitted in each direction every 30 milliseconds.”
Answer – 4.686Mbps

Again, you can perform reverse calculations to work out the busy hour traffic that can be offered to your existing group of lines derived from an IP link of a known bandwidth.
